Reading the numbers

Each range covers most healthy Golden Retrievers of that age and sex, roughly the middle 80%. It is a guide, not a target: build varies, and a dog slightly outside the range can be perfectly healthy.

Ranges are drafted from breed standards and veterinary references and checked against published figures. Month-by-month curves are interpolated along the usual growth shape for the breed’s size.

PetTrackr helps you keep track. It is not veterinary advice: if your pet seems unwell, call your vet.

Questions people ask

How much should an adult Golden Retriever weigh?
A healthy adult male Golden Retriever typically weighs 29.5–36.0 kg (65–79 lb), and a female 25.0–31.8 kg (55–70 lb). Body shape matters as much as the number: you should be able to feel the ribs easily without seeing them.
How much should a 6-month-old Golden Retriever weigh?
Around 19.1 kg for a male (healthy range 15.4–22.7 kg) and 17.7 kg for a female (13.9–21.1 kg).
When is a Golden Retriever fully grown?
Most reach their adult height within the first year and fill out into their adult weight over the following months. The chart above shows the typical path from 2 to 12 months.
My Golden Retriever is outside the range. Should I worry?
Not necessarily. Ranges describe most healthy dogs of the breed, and some sit naturally above or below. Check their body shape, and ask your vet if the weight is changing quickly or you are unsure.
